What Our Clients Say About Speech Therapy Essentials
FAQ
Answers to Common Questions About Our Services
What types of adult conditions do you treat?
We work with adults who have communication or swallowing disorders due to stroke, brain injury, or degenerative neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease (PD), ALS, Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and more.
How do I know if I need speech therapy?
If you notice changes in speech clarity, memory, swallowing, or language that make daily life harder, speech therapy may help. We also recommend consulting your physician for guidance and referral.
What happens during the first session?
Your first session includes a full assessment of speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive skills. From there, we create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your goals and needs.
How long does therapy take?
Every person is different. Some see improvement within weeks, while others with long-term conditions may need ongoing support. The length of therapy depends on your diagnosis, progress, and personal goals.
Do you provide therapy for swallowing problems?
Yes. We provide swallowing (dysphagia) therapy to make eating and drinking safer and more comfortable, especially after stroke, brain injury, or neurological conditions.

Conditions Treated for Adults
Helping You or Your Loved Ones Communicate With Confidence
Speech Therapy – Motor Speech Disorders
After a stroke, brain injury, or with conditions like ALS, speech can sometimes feel harder to control. Words may come out slurred, slow, or difficult to say clearly. In apraxia, the brain has trouble planning the movements for speech. In dysarthria, the muscles used for speaking may be weak, stiff, or uncoordinated.
Therapy is designed to help you regain confidence in your voice. We focus on strengthening the muscles for speech, retraining the brain and body to work together, and giving you practical tools to make everyday communication easier.
What to Expect in Therapy
Individualized exercises to build strength and coordination for clearer speech.
Targeted communication activities to help speech feel more natural and effective.
Techniques to make your speech easier to understand, such as overarticulation and pacing.
Real-life practice with words and conversations that matter most to you.
Caregiver support and training so your family can encourage progress and feel confident helping you at home.
Swallowing Therapy – Dysphagia
After a stroke, brain injury, or with conditions like dementia or neurological disease, swallowing can become difficult or unsafe. This may cause coughing during meals, a feeling of food “sticking,” or concerns about choking.
Therapy focuses on making eating and drinking safer, more comfortable, and more enjoyable.
What to Expect in Therapy
Individualized exercises to strengthen the muscles used for swallowing.
Safe swallowing strategies to reduce coughing, choking, or discomfort.
Diet and liquid modifications when needed to make meals safer and easier.
Caregiver support and training so loved ones can assist with safe eating at home.
Language Therapy – Aphasia
After a stroke, brain injury, or with conditions like dementia, language can become harder to use. This is called aphasia, a condition that affects speaking, understanding, reading, and writing.
Therapy focuses on restoring these skills in practical, meaningful ways so you can connect more easily with the people around you.
What to Expect in Therapy
Individualized strategies to improve word-finding, comprehension, reading, and writing.
Real-life practice with conversations that matter most to you.
Techniques to reduce frustration and make communication more successful day-to-day.
Caregiver support and training to help loved ones encourage progress at home.
Cognitive-Communication Therapy
After a stroke, brain injury, or with conditions like dementia, the thinking skills that support communication may be affected. This can impact memory, attention, organization, and problem-solving, making it harder to manage daily life.
Therapy focuses on strengthening these skills so you can stay engaged, independent, and connected.
